Italy 2013… Day 2 in Puglia…

Started the day with breakfast in the hotel cafe…then on to Torre Vento, Castel del Monte, Murgia, Puglia for a winery tour and tasting. The winery was built in an old Monastery from 1400… converted to a winery 100 years ago and maintained by the Liantiano Family…after the tour we sat down for a tasting with Francesco Liantiano…grandson of the original owner and proud keeper of family and regional tradition… Torre Vento is the pioneer of bottling the indigenous Nero d’ Troia as a single varietal… sampled 6 whites and 3 roses before lunch…had a delicious 3 course lunch…with 3 reds and a desert wine…then we toured the castle… Castel del Monte…a very unique and historical, octagonal shaped Castle built by King Fredric over 900 years ago…then back to the hotel at 6:00pm to “freshen up”and get ready for dinner…at 7:30 pm we were on our way back to the winery… tasted 11 red wines before our amazing, traditional dinner of Puglia… enjoyed 3 more reds…and great conversation with dinner… I have never experienced a more perfectly paced day of tasting and touring in all of my trips to Italy…only tasted 24 wines all day…spent the entire day with a very passionate, and gracious family…it was another great day in Puglia…
