Italy 2013…Day 6…Vinitaly… in Verona…

On Day 6 the work begins…up at 7:00 am, breakfast at the B&B at 8:00 and on the road at 9:00. Traffic will be our obstacle for the next few days. What would only be a 20 minute drive without traffic turns in to an hour or more during Vinitaly…the commute back is even longer…after parking, we stand in line for 40 minutes and just make to our 11:00 appointment with Monte del Fra on time. Marica Bonomo was our host and tasted us through her families wines. We started with the 2012 Custoza and then moved on to the highly acclaimed 2011 Monte del Fra Custoza Superior… Marica said that it was their best vintage so far… we all agreed that the wine was tasting great…We tasted the 2012 Lugana… Soave Classico… and Bardolino Chiaretto Rose…then… on to the reds… 2012 Monte del Fra Bardolino… 2010 Corvina… the 2012 Valpolicella, the 2010 Valpolicella Superiore and Ripasso. We then moved up to the 2008 Amarone and the 2008 Amarone Riserva…not a bad wine in the bunch…all of them were exceptional, actually… Our next appointment was with our friends at Montesel…premier producers of Prosecco who just happen to be 100 percent organic… We tasted the Gold Label Brut, the Extra Dry, Vintage Extra Dry, the Single Vineyard Dry and the Prosecco Rose…some of the best Proseccos in Italy to cleanse our palates for the next stop… Tuscany and the wines of Albergotti, Cantina Vin Tipica Arentino we tasted the 2012 Terre Toscano Chardonnay, 2011 Terre Toscano Sangiovese,2011 Chianti DOCG, 2008 Villa Albergotti Chianti Classico Riserva, 2009 Casato Albergotti Chianti, and the 2005 Barone Albergotti Toscana Rosso…last stop…a visit with the Torti Family of Oltrepo Pavese in Lambardia…producers of Pinot Nero Bianco, Rose, and Rosso. We had a very relaxing visit with Sophia, Dino, Laura, and Patrizia…tasted some great wines, especially the 2010 Torti Pinot Nero Bianco…a great ending to our first day in Vinitaly…then back to B&B in Negrar to freshen up and head out for an early night of antipasti, salad, pizza and beer at a local Taverna…got to bed at 11:00pm…all and all a pretty easy day…in Italy…
