Our first day in Verona at the largest wine fair in the world was spent visiting old friends. It was a day of family… Our first appointment was with the Bonomo Family at Monte del Fra. We met with Silvia and Marica. We tasted all the new vintages and they debuted their new labels, which are very eye catching, tasteful, and a very nice improvement. The wines were great, as always. Then on to meet with Felice at Cantina Frentana…they had a new label to debut as well. We tasted through their wines including the new Torre Vinaria wines, which were very nice. The Pecorino Spumante was particulary tasty. Then we went to the Montesel Prosecco stand. We tasted the Brut Prosecco,Extra Dry, and Dry. All these Proseccos are excellent. We also had a chance to try their Giogaia Rosato. This sparkling rose’ is a rich dry blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Delicious. Next stop Torre Vento. We meet with Andrea, who was our host when we visited the winery in 2013. Their wines were fantastic, but the real treat of that visit was the 6 day old Buffala Mozzarella. Our last appointment of the day was with Patrizia and the rest of the Torti Family from Oltrepo Pavese. The specialize in Pinot Nero. Their Pinot Nero Bianco was the first one I had ever had, and still my favorite. The make Pinot Nero Rosso and Spumante as well. They are all very high quality. It was great to visit with them again. All and all a very easy day only 40 wines between 11:00 and 6:00. Then we went to Lago de Garda and the Hotel Tobago for an amazing dinner with Cantena Frentana…was in bed by 12:30…not a bad first day.
