Italy 2013… Day 9… Vinitaly Day 4…

Today is the last day at Vinitaly… Very little traffic on the way in…did not have to wait long to park…no long line at the gate to get in…nice start to a much less hectic day. We started our day in Peimonte and the wines of Cascina Bruni…their winery has the distinct history of being the official winery of the King of Italy…so quality has always been a priority for them. First wine of the morning was the 2010 Cascina Bruni Barbera d’Asti “Villa Lisa”…this is wine that I am very familiar with …a house favorite you might say…and at 10:00am it was tasting great! We then went through the rest of the reds…2010 Barbera d’Alba Superiore, 2009 Barolo “Maria Lunga”, 2007 Barberesco Riserva “Fanin”, 2006 Barolo Riserva “Batistot”, and the a special treat 2003 Barolo Riseva “Rivassotto”…all classic Peimonte style reds that tasted great…and really had us thirsting for the last wine… 2012 Cascina Bruni Moscato dAsti…sweet, bubbly and delicious…the perfect palate rescue…next appointment… Fracesco Rinaldi & Figli…producers of the 2012 Figini Gavi…a classic dry white wine made of the Cortese grape of Peimonte…the we tasted their upper level “black label” 2011Gavi…a richer style aged on the lees…last wine there was the 2010 Gavi Spumante which was beautiful, bright, crisp and dry…delicious… Next stop Sardegna and the wines of Mora&Memo… producers of Vermentino and Cannonau which has been grown in Sardegna for over 400 years (and recently mention by Dr. Oz) tasted 4 great wines there and broke for lunch. I had a Pannino and a beer and Sam levitas and I stopped in for a coffee and visit with Patrizia Torte and her family…then on to Tuscany the Fattoi Winery and their wines from Montelcino… The 2011 Fattoi Rosso di Montalcino is absolutely beautiful…the 2008,2007 and 2007 Fattoi Brunello di Montalcina were all amazing as well… The only thing that rivals the quality of their wines…is their olive oil and home made salami…a great last day at Vinitaly…a relaxing evening and dinner in Negrar and back to the Alle Cacarole B&B by 10:00pm…a great trip to Italy with Sam Levitas, Fosco Amoroso and Pietro Nano of Tricana Imports and Justin Wardwell and Lori Perley of Wicked Wines…can’t wait to go back…
